Mira Andreeva throws tantrum after loss to Siniakova at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Defending champion Mirra Andreeva broke her racket multiple times during her 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-3 loss to unseeded Katerina Siniakova in the third round of the Indian Wells tournament on Monday night and left the court to talk to the crowd.

Andreeva committed the violation after she threw her racket and then smashed it after losing the second-set tiebreaker.

She threw her racket again after match point, then shook hands with Siniakova at the net before leaving the court, gesturing and shouting to the crowd.

“I’m not proud of how I handled it. I’m not proud of how I ended up handling it,” Andreeva said at a news conference, according to The Athletic. “Those are things that I really need to address as soon as possible. I don’t know. Not in the future, but whenever I get the chance.”
