Paul vs. Fonseca, Sinner vs. Shapovalov

There will be no rest days for Joao Fonseca, who had a one point win on Saturday and will now face Tommy Paul in the third round of Indian Wells on Sunday. Jannik Sinner and Denis Shapovalov are also there.
Joao Fonseca vs. (23) Tommy Paul
Fonseca entered the 2026 campaign with a back injury and struggled in the first two months, but looks hot. The 19-year-old Brazilian prepared for the BNP Paribas Open by winning the MGM Slam tournament by 10 points in Las Vegas and now finds himself in the first 32 Masters 1000 events of the season. Fonseca opened with a 7-6(2), 6-4 loss to Raphael Collignon before edging out Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 in two straight match points on Saturday.

The world No. 35 gets the night session treatment on Sunday with a second meeting with Paul, who won the end of their previous match 7-6(7), 7-6(3) last spring in Madrid. The in-form Paul has won 12 matches this year, including a runner-up finish in Delray Beach and a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Zizou Bergs on Friday. With the 24th-ranked American playing well and having the advantage, he should have the upper hand in this matchup.
Pick: Paul at 3
Denis Shapovalov vs. (2) Jannik Sinner
Sinner and Shapovalov will be facing each other for the second time in their careers on Sunday. They split their previous two encounters; Shapovalov won five setters in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open before Sinner won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 at the 2025 US Open.
A more twisted story may be reserved for Tennis Paradise. Shapovalov somehow managed to win his first two matches in three sets, but did not play well against Stefanos Tsitsipas or Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Sinner, on the other hand, finished off Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1 on Friday night. The second-seeded Italian is now 12-3 lifetime in Indian Wells and has reached the semifinals in straight sets. Count this to be one-way traffic for Sinner.
