Doha tennis preview, picks, and predictions: Rublev vs. Tsitsipas

Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet for the 13th time in their careers when they meet in the quarterfinals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open on Thursday.

The head-to-head series is tied at 6-6 (Tsitsipas leads 6-5 in the main round). Amazingly, they haven’t faced each other since 2022 – when Tsitsipas won a clay court meeting in Madrid before they split the two talks on hard courts.

This should be another exciting one, because both guys have played very well in the Middle East throughout their careers. Something similar continued this week in Doha; Rublev earned a place in the quarterfinals by beating Jesper de Jong and Fabian Marozsan in straight sets, while Tsitsipas beat Moez Echargui and Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

When both are at their best, Tsitsipas is at his best – after all, this is a former world No. 3 and two-time Grand Slam finalist we’re talking about. If the Greek brings the same level he showed against Medvedev on Wednesday, he should be able to pull off a tough win.

Pick: Tsitsipas at 3
