Alcaraz, Sinner on the collision course at the Doha ATP 500

It’s not often that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner compete in the same tournament outside of the Grand Slam and Masters 1000 level, but that’s the case this week at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
This ATP 500 event boasts a stacked field that includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Jakub Mensik, Karen Khachanov, Jiri Lechecka, Arthur Fils, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ugo Humbert, Tomas Machac, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Alexander Bublik was on the list of candidates but withdrew.
Despite the tough competition, Alcaraz and Sinner are clearly the big favorites to reach the finals. Alcaraz should have no trouble in the early rounds before facing either Medvedev or Rublev in the semis. Sinner faces Machac in the first round and could meet Mensik in a spot, but Bublik’s exit makes the bottom half of the bracket relatively weak.
Alcaraz series vs. Sinner is 11-6 in favor of the Spaniard entering this week (10-6 at the ATP level). However, the Italian won his most recent match for the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals tournament.
