Canada’s Victoria M’Boko advances to Qatar Open finals

Victoria Mboko continued her strong start to the 2026 season on Friday.

The Canadian teenager defeated Latvian player Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the finals of the Qatar Open.

Mboko, ranked 13th in the world, defeated top 10 Mira Andreeva and Elena Rybakina earlier this week. She started her season by reaching the final at the Adelaide International and then reached the last 16 at the Australian Open.

The latest win guarantees Mboko a first-ever top-10 finish next week.

The 19-year-old Mboko will next face the winner of the other semi-final in the WTA Tour 1000 level event, against No. 14 seeds Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic and Maria Sakkari of Greece.

Mboko started last season just outside the top 300. She had a huge win at the tour level last August at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal.
