MELBOURNE, Australia — Carlos Alcaraz completed his career Grand Slam singles victory with the Australian Open title, but his defeated opponent, 24-time Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic, also received some consolation.
While Alcaraz maintains the No. 1 ranking on the ATP Tour ahead of Yannik Sinner, Djokovic moved up one spot to third after defeating Sinner in the Melbourne Park semifinals. This is the first time that the 38-year-old Djokovic has entered the top three since August 2024.
On the WTA Tour, Aryna Sabalenka maintains her top ranking despite losing to Elena Rybakina in the final. Rybakina moved up two spots to third, with Iga Swiatek taking second.
Following her in the WTA rankings are three Americans: No. 4 Amanda Anisimova, Coco Gauff and Australian Open semifinalist Jessica Pegula. Elina Svitolina moves up two places to 10th after losing to Sabalenka in the semi-finals at Melbourne Park.
American rookie Tenn is one of the most improved players on the two tours. His ranking on the ATP Tour has risen five places to a career-high No. 24. Tian, 20, lost to current No. 4 Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, becoming the youngest American man to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam since 2002.
