Musetti vs. Wong, Bublik vs. Shang

Lorenzo Musetti and Alexander Bublik, the top two seeds in Hong Kong, will not have the opportunity to go to their home courts in the quarterfinals on Friday. They face Coleman Wong and Jerry Shang, respectively.
(1) Lorenzo Musetti vs. (WC) Coleman Wong
Musetti and Wong will be facing each other for the second time in their career at the Bank of China Open when they meet again on Friday, this time in the quarterfinals. They faced each other in the first round in 2024, with Musetti cruising 6-4, 7-5.

Both players have made significant strides since then, establishing themselves as a top-10 player after appearing in the Nitto ATP Finals last year. The seventh-ranked Italian began his 2026 campaign in winning fashion, although he needed three sets to fend off Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Wong has reached No. 150 in the rankings but should be on the fast track to the top 100 based on his performance in 2025 and his form so far this season. The player from Hong Kong secured his place in the last eight by defeating Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-5 and Gabriel Diallo 1-6, 7-5, 7-5. This won’t be an easy matchup for Musetti, but the top seeds will test Wong in ways he didn’t when Navone and Diallo were on the other side of the net.

(WC) Jerry Shang vs. (2) Alexander Bublik
Unlike Wong, Shang prefers playing in front of a home crowd. The 20-year-old from China claimed his first ATP title at the 2024 Chengdu event and reached the title in each of his two trips to Hong Kong. Shang has made another strong start to the 2026 tournament, as he eliminated Francisco Comesana 6-4, 6-4 and Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-4 earlier this week.
Next on the left is the fourth game against Bublik, who trail the series head to head 2-1. The 11th-ranked Kazakh won 6-4, 6-1 at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters before Shang came out on top later that year at the US Open (in five sets) and Chengdu (in the second tiebreaker). Of course, that was all before Bublik’s 2025 breakthrough where he became a completely different player – especially from a mental standpoint, as the talent has always been evident. A 6-3, 6-3 thrashing of Botic van de Zandschulp on Thursday signaled that the 28-year-old is set to retire in 2026.
