Belgium Kick off Davis Cup Finals with 2-0 Sweep of France

Belgium topped France 2-0 in the opening match of the Davis Cuff Finals on Tuesday evening in Bologna, Italy.

Raphael Collignon and Zizou Bergs took victory for the Belgians, who are in the Davis Cup Semifinals for the first time since 2017 – when they lost to none other than France. Collignon opened with a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over Carentin Moutet before Burgs edged Arthur Rindernech 6-3, 7-6 (4).

“It’s always a special moment when you can work for the game – and in the Davis Cup it’s a lot less than in other tournaments, because you want more,” explained Bergs. “On the boat, I always feel very confident. I stayed calm and tried to focus on what I needed to win.”

“Yes, it’s good that we can win today because we [have not defeated France] Since 1997, “Captain Steve Darcis noted.” A long time. We lose (to them) in every game, too. So at least we have a nice win to bring home.

“We had a good preparation for this game. We were all ready to be on the court. I think we saw that I don’t care and that I’m proud of you after the games.”

Belgium will face either Italy or Austria in the semis on Friday.
