Musetti vs Sonego, de Minaur vs Diallo

IMBEWE LORENZO Musetti and Alex de Minaur will get their Paris campaigns on Wednesday after benefiting from the Byses starting. They went up against Lorenzo Sonego and Gabriel Diallo, respectively.

(7) Lorenzo Musetti vs Lorenzo Sonego

It will be an all-Italian affair when Musetti and Sonetti head for the second time in their careers at the Rolex Paris Masters on Wednesday. Their only previous meeting came almost exactly 12 months ago, when Mumetti edged out 6-2, 6-2 on Vienna’s Supreme Court.

Those kinds of results were nothing new for SONEGO, who has built a solid career beating lower-ranked players on a fairly consistent basis, but has almost never had the challenges of higher-ranked opponents. The Italian with the Top of the Top of the Top on the other side of the net is probably the worst case for SONEGO. World No. 45 did well to beat Sebastian Korda on Monday, but the Red-Hot Musetti is a completely different proposition. Count on the seventh seed to take another step towards a Nitto ATP Finals berth.

Gabriel Diallo vs. (6) Alex de Minaur

De Minaur is ahead of Musetti in the year-end professional race, next in line to qualify behind Americans Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. The sixth Australian is 53-20 this season and has not lost before the quarterfinals of any event since Cincinnati. This stretch includes the quarterfinals at the US open, the Beijing run, and the terkerfinal that ends in Shanghai.

Up First for De Minaur on Wednesday is the second meeting with Diallo, who lost their previous meeting 6-4, 7-5 at the Toronto Masters. The 42-ranked Canadian is a different player now, but he may still be out of sync to compete heavily with this particular opponent. De Minaurs also likes a fast place, but in this matcoup it is Diallo who will really benefit from being able to play short rallies.
