Auger-Aliassime gains from Mumetti in the Turin Race for the title in Brussels

Felix auger-Aliassime strengthened his NITTO ATP Finals hopes with victory at the European open in Brussels on Sunday. Auger-Aliassime completed his winning run by beating Jiri Lehecka 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6), 6-2 After two hours and 34 minutes.

“It’s the last time, so we’re putting everything on the line,” said the 25-year-old Canadian. “I feel like we were very focused from the beginning. It was a high level two sets, then you don’t know how things can go…. But obviously I’m happy.”

It is the ONP ATP Tour title of auger-aliassime, including his seven houses. LehecA is a lifetime 2-4 in ATP Finals. The 23-year-old Czech now has back-to-back wins at the tournament (it was held in Antwerp last year).

“I have a lot of respect for him as a person (and) as a player,” Auger-Aliassime said of Lehecka. “He’s a great guy. As far as the sour goes we went well, so credit to him and his team – they did a great job.”

Auger-Aliassime moves within 330 points of Lorenzo Musetti for the all-important No. 8 in the race to Turin. Musetti lost to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Brussels Quarterfinals.

Both players can get up to 500 points this week. Auger-Aliassime plays in Basel, while Musetti takes court in Vienna.

Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sini, and Novak Djokovic have already earned Nitto ATP Finals spots. They are followed in the current standings by Alexander Zveri, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Alex de Minaur.
