NEW YORK – No. 2 Iga Swiatek reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open on Monday, 6-3, 6-1.
Swiatek dropped 3-1 from 3-1 in the first set to win, down 5-1 from less than 48 hours to beat Anna Kalinskaya.
“At the beginning, I felt she was doing very fast,” Swiatek said after the fourth round against Alexandrova. “I wanted to find the rhythm, but then I really felt like I was in the bubble and the area.”
Swiatek will reach the semi-finals against Amanda Anisimova in the United States or Beatriz Haddad Maia in Brazil. A 24-year-old from Poland is seeking her second open title, finishing seventh in the Grand Slam.

The eighth seed Australian Alex de Minaur defeated the qualifiers, with Leandro Riedi 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Next, he will plan to play Canada’s Felix Osai-Aliasim. The highest ranking Jannik Sinner faces Alexander Bublik at night meetings.
