Leylah Fernandez of Canada openly from Monterrey

Canada’s Leylah Fernandez was eliminated from the Monterrey Open on Wednesday after falling 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 in Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova.

The 22-year-old from Laval, Quebec, played the first game of 16 rounds, winning 64.3% of her first-place score.

Sramkova rally and gained all five available breakout points in the second and third sets to win a two-hour nine-minute game.

Fernandez, who won the Washington Open last month, finished seventh in the Hardcourt WTA 500 Championship, and she has won twice.

The Canadian won the Washington Open last month, but after the performance, a back-to-back start at the Montreal National Bank Open and the Cincinnati Open.

Canada Gabriela Dabrowski and her doubles partner Erin Routliffe remain active at the Monterey Open and will face Russians Kamilla Rakhimova and Irina Khromacheva later on Wednesday.
