Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina advances to the semifinals of the National Bank Open

Montreal – Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina advanced to Rodgers semifinals in Ukraine Marta Kostyuk was forced to retire on Monday, while trailing 6-1, 2-1 in the women’s singles action to advance to the National Bank Open in the Ukrainian semifinals.

The ninth seed Rybakina converted 3 of her 10 breakpoint chances in the quarter-final showdown at IGA Stadium. The player shook hands at the 54-minute mark before No. 24 seed Kostyuk left the court in tears.

After the third game, Kostyuk’s coach wrapped her forearm with medical tape.

Rybakina will face the winner of the showdown between Victoria Mboko and Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro on Monday night.

Mboko defeated the top-seeded Coco Gauff in the United States on Saturday and won an unbalanced game in just 62 minutes.

The 18-year-old from Toronto rose from the top 300 to the world’s No. 85 in a breakthrough year.

The National Bank Open (WTA Class 1000 event) aired in Thursday’s final. The Eighth Finals were canceled before the quarterfinals.
