De Minaur wins Tiafoe

Toronto – Australia’s Alex de Minaur surpassed U.S. Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to advance in the men’s singles quarterfinals opened at the National Bank on Sunday.
In a two-hour 24-minute game, the ninth seed de Minaur broke the game in 5 of his 10 chances. He also won six aces, hitting five double breakdowns, and earning 77% of his first-place score.
Tiafoe, the seventh seed, shot 10 A’s into 4 double faults and won 74% of his first point. He broke three of these seven opportunities.
De Minaur will face a championship between Sunday night seeds Ben Shelton and Italy’s Flavio Cobolli.
Another afternoon match saw Russia’s sixth seed Audrey Rublev compete in Spain’s 20th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The late game will have a second American Taylor Fritz facing the 19th seed of Czech Republic Jiri Lehecka.
