No. 6 seed Madison Keys advances to National Bank Open Quarterfinals

Montreal – Madison Keys has been promoted to the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open.
The sixth seed American rebounded from a set deficit and beat Czech Karolina Muchova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday afternoon in a stormy Sunday afternoon at the courtroom in the IGA Stadium Center.
It marked the second straight winning streak of Keys, who beat his American compatriot Caty McNally in the third round of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Keys was runner-up at the 2016 Montreal Championship, matching Ana Ivanovic, the longest gap between quarter-final appearances in the Open Era. The Keys have not surpassed Canada’s second round since losing to Simona Halep last nine years ago.
The victory also earned Keys’ 75th professional victory among the top 20 players in the WTA.
After wasting his own breakthrough opportunity in the second game, the key was broken in the following game, trailing 2-1.
Despite swapping serve breaks in Games 6 and 7, early breaks proved to be enough to get Muchova to open 6-4.
The key bounces back in the second set. The 2025 Australian Open champion took advantage of her first match Muchova’s outdated double fault, breaking the Czech service and leading 3-1. The key eventually forces a decider to seal the second plate with 172 km/h ace.
Despite the third and last set of the opening game, the keys still have a lot of adversity. After being eliminated in Game 4, Case was forced to defeat two games in Game 10.
This galvanized key breaks the following game on the way to victory.
Keys are now waiting for the winner of the fourth round of Sunday night’s 2025 Wimbledon champion and Poland’s second-seeded Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, and against Denmark’s Clara Tauson on Tuesday.
Sunday’s meeting will also host a showdown between Naomi Osaka in Osaka, Japan and Anastasija Sevastova in Latvia. Nightcap saw the 2025 Wimbledon finalist and No. 5 seed Amanda Anisimova competed in the tenth seed of the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.
The National Bank opened until Thursday.
